Foundations of Best Practice: The Blueprint That Stands the Test of Time
Excellence is not just an aspiration in today’s rapidly changing world — it’s a necessity for individuals and organizations striving to remain competitive and relevant. Yet, the path to excellence can often feel overwhelming. Many believe that continuous improvement requires constant reinvention, and there is truth in that. But it is not the case for everything all the time.

Every process or activity has a foundational structure, a blueprint, that endures over time. While the way we execute these processes may evolve — through automation, increased frequency, or new methodologies — the core actions remain unchanged. This foundational structure is what I define as the basis of a “Best Practice”.

The 7E’s of Excellence
To create a sustainable path to excellence, I developed the 7E Model for Excellence. This comprehensive framework is designed to guide the implementation of best practices in a structured and repeatable way. The model is built around seven interconnected steps—Envision, Explore, Establish, Execute, Evaluate, Enhance, and Engage—that work together to ensure continuous improvement.

Each step in the 7E Model plays a crucial role:

1. Envision: Shaping the vision, setting objectives and determining preconditions.
2. Explore: Gather insights, assess risks, and identify opportunities.
3. Establish: Lay the foundation by setting clear objectives and aligning resources.
4. Execute: Implement the plan and bring it to life.
5. Evaluate: Measure progress and identify improvement areas.
6. Enhance: Refine Best Practices.
7. Engage: Foster collaboration, communication, and commitment throughout the process.

Drawing from my experience in contract management and developing the Best Practice CATS CM^® framework, I will provide real-world examples to illustrate how the 7E Model works in practice.
